Used eMTBs for Sale

Electric mountain bikes from the world's top brands. More trail, less effort — find your eMTB today.

Why Riders Choose E-Bike Mountain

Electric mountain bikes have rewritten what's possible on a trail ride. More vertical per hour, longer rides with the same energy expenditure, and the ability to ride with friends of any fitness level — eMTBs have converted thousands of riders who thought they'd hung up their mountain bikes. The used eMTB market is now mature enough to offer excellent value: bikes 2–3 years old with well-maintained batteries and motors are mechanically sound and significantly cheaper than new. The fundamentals of a quality eMTB — motor power, battery capacity, frame design — change slowly, so a 2022 eMTB is still an exceptional machine today.

Popular Models

Specialized Levo / Levo SL

The Specialized Levo is the benchmark full-power eMTB, built around a proprietary Specialized/Brose motor and available in aluminum and carbon. The Levo SL uses a lighter Specialized SL 1.1 motor — sacrificing some power for dramatic weight reduction (sub-19 lbs). Both are exceptional trail bikes that happen to have a motor.

Santa Cruz Heckler

The Heckler is Santa Cruz's eMTB platform, built around the Shimano EP8 motor system. It's available in aluminum (MX build) and carbon (CC build) and follows Santa Cruz's trail-first design philosophy — the motor and battery are integrated cleanly without compromising the frame's ride character.

Trek Rail

The Trek Rail uses the Bosch Performance CX or Smart System motor and is one of the most capable and durable eMTBs on the market. It's built for harder use and covers longer mileage — the Bosch motor system is widely regarded as the most reliable in the industry with excellent dealer support.

Giant Trance X E+

Giant's eMTB lineup uses the Yamaha Syncdrive Pro motor system, which is smooth and natural-feeling. The Trance X E+ is available at multiple price points, making it one of the more accessible premium eMTB options on the used market.

What to Look for When Buying Used

eMTB purchases require a few extra checks beyond a standard mountain bike inspection. First, ask for the battery charge cycle count — most eMTB batteries are rated for 500–1000 charge cycles before significant capacity loss. A battery below 300 cycles still has most of its life. Second, test the motor in all assist modes: the transition between modes should be smooth with no grinding or hesitation. Third, check for any firmware updates that have been applied — updated firmware often improves motor feel and efficiency. Finally, verify that the charger is included, as replacements can run $100–200.

Suspension, Drivetrain & Build Considerations

The motor system is the most important spec on an eMTB. Bosch, Shimano EP8, and Brose/Specialized motors are the three most common systems, each with different characteristics. Bosch offers the widest dealer support and parts availability. Shimano EP8 is lighter and has a natural pedaling feel favored by XC-influenced eMTB riders. Specialized's motor is tightly integrated with their app ecosystem. Battery capacity (measured in Wh) determines range — 500Wh is the current standard for full-power systems; anything below 400Wh will limit your range on longer rides.

Why BidBikes vs Facebook Marketplace or Pinkbike

eMTBs are high-value purchases where buying from an unknown seller carries real risk. BidBikes verifies seller identity and requires full photo documentation of the motor, display, battery, and frame before a listing goes live. All communication between buyers and sellers happens on-platform — no phone numbers exchanged until you're ready to transact. This creates the accountability that Facebook Marketplace simply can't offer.
